Most of us take for granted being able to access healthy food at the neighborhood grocery store. But a new report by a Philadelphia-based organization called the Food Trust says that Massachusetts does not have enough supermarkets to adequately serve our population.
The Commonwealth ranks near the bottom nationally in having enough supermarkets to meet the state’s need. Supermarkets also create jobs locally, supporting economic and neighborhood development efforts. MassINC’s John Schneider has been asked to serve on a new task force to look at how to expand access to supermarkets, especially in Gateway Cities where the need is greatest.
