MassINC Announces Appointment of Maria Fernandes-Dominique to Board of Directors

Director at Blue Cross Blue Shield becomes MassINC’s newest board member

BOSTON – MassINC is pleased to announce the addition of Maria Fernandes-Dominique, Director of Public Affairs at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts, to the nonprofit’s board of directors.

“We are delighted to welcome Maria to the MassINC family.”, said CEO and President of MassINC, Lauren Louison Grogan. “Maria’s professional and lived experiences add thoughtful insight to our efforts and I am sure her expertise on community development will add value to our mission to expand equitable access to opportunities for Massachusetts residents, especially those in the Gateway Cities.”

Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts has been a long-time corporate sponsor of MassINC’s Gateway Cities work and Maria, an immigrant from Cabo Verde and a Brockton native, was a featured speaker in MassINC’s Ninth Annual Gateway Cities Innovation Institute Awards and Summit last September.

Maria becomes MassINC’s 30th board member and brings valuable experience as a self-described community development practitioner with an impressive background, having held roles at NeighborWorks America, the Boston Bar Association, Boston Children’s Hospital, and now Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts. In each of these roles, she has served as a community liaison and always approached these roles with a racial equity lens.

“I have always had immense respect for MassINC as the Commonwealth’s credible resource on research, data, and polling. In my new board role, I am excited to work alongside the CEO, board, and staff to help grow the organization as credible, thoughtful, and equity-oriented.”
