Bruce Mohl, an investigative reporter, political editor, and consumer reporter for the Boston Globe for nearly 30 years, was today named the editor of CommonWealth magazine. CommonWealth is the award-winning quarterly journal of Massachusetts politics and civic life published by the Massachusetts Institute for a New Commonwealth, MassINC, the state’s leading non-partisan think tank.
CommonWealth publisher and MassINC president Greg Torres said, “I am very excited that someone with Bruce’s talent and experience will join us as editor of our quarterly journal on Massachusetts politics and civic life.”
Mohl has served in a variety of key positions at the Globe as a reporter and editor since beginning his career there in 1978. He covered the Massachusetts State House and served as the Globe’s State House bureau chief in the late 1980s. He also reported for the Globe’s Spotlight Team, winning a Loeb award in 1992 for coverage of conflicts of interest in the state’s pension system. He served as the Globe’s political editor in 1994, managing the coverage of the state election and the campaign for U.S. Senate between Mitt Romney and Senator Edward Kennedy. Most recently, Mohl has been the Globe’s consumer reporter, covering a range of issues including the state’s antiquated ticket reselling laws and the recent introduction of competition to the auto insurance market. He also writes the weekly Consumer Beat column.
Mohl is a graduate of Ohio Wesleyan University and the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University. He lives in Milton, MA with his wife and son.
