Senior Research Associate

About this role: MassINC seeks an experienced, dynamic, and self-driven Senior Research Associate to join our team. Reporting to the Research Director, this person will support MassINC research across issue areas. Current issues include community and economic development, criminal justice, digital equity, education and workforce development, and transportation, all with a focus on the needs and opportunities of Gateway Cities.

The Senior Research Associate is responsible for fulfilling research grant deliverables and obligations, and contributing to MassINC’s communications content through blogs, newsletters, op-eds, and social media. A successful candidate will have experience producing self-directed policy research and writing.

Responsibilities

The Senior Research Associate will be responsible for:

  • Leading research projects across issue areas, with both quantitative and qualitative elements;
  • Presenting research findings at public forums;
  • Building relationships with external partners and representing MassINC in various settings;
  • Producing timely analysis and short written pieces for newsletters, blogs, op-eds, and social media;
  • Managing interns; and
  • Collaborating regularly with MassINC staff on public events and other organizational needs.

Experience and Qualifications

A successful candidate will have:

  • Experience in a public policy or research field (4 years of experience or advanced degree preferred);
  • Strong writing skills;
  • Strong quantitative skills, including familiarity with Census data, the ability to manipulate large data sets, and proficiency with GIS; and
  • Experience with qualitative methods, including group interviews and moderation.

This position emphasizes an ability to work across issues simultaneously rather than extensive expertise in one area. The opportunity is ideal for generalists who like to make connections across issues and take a holistic approach to policy change.

Compensation, Benefits, and Work Arrangements

The salary range for this position is $85,000 – $95,000. MassINC provides a full suite of benefits including health care with HRA, dental insurance, 401K plus company match, FSA and DCA, unlimited vacation, generous parental leave, and 13 paid holidays throughout the year, among other benefits.

MassINC is currently a hybrid office based in Boston. This role will be expected to be in the office and attend in-person events as necessary, typically 2-3 days a week.

Please submit a cover letter, resume, and 3-5 content samples to mduggan@massinc.org. If possible, content samples should include a variety of examples such as research reports, articles, or links to recorded media/event appearances.
