John Grossman
Senior Fellow, Third Sector Capital Partners
John’s vocation is taking a multi-disciplinary approach — drawing on finance, data, evidence-based practice, and the law — to drive effectiveness and equity in the public and social sectors. He currently serves as a Greg Torres Senior Fellow at MassINC, where he is working to expand the flow of impact investing dollars to under-capitalized communities in the Commonwealth, and as a Senior Fellow at Third Sector, a non-profit firm helping government programs achieve outcomes. Since joining Third Sector in 2012, he has played several roles, including Co-President and General Counsel, while building Pay for Success projects around the country and co-founding the firm’s DEI working group. He is also the Manager of Xancharlize Ventures, a partnership focused on directing private capital toward social and environmental outcomes.
Before his current work, John spent over fifteen years with the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, most recently serving as the Undersecretary for Forensic Science and Technology within the Executive Office of Public Safety and Security. He was also a part-time Visiting Executive at Harvard Business School.
John currently sits on the boards of Concord Academy, where he has led the Committee on Trustees and the Community and Equity Committee, and of Welcoming America, where he serves as Treasurer. He is a member of Boston Children’s Hospital’s Community Investment Advisory Committee and of the Investment Committee of the Collective Climate Justice Fund. He is a summa cum laude graduate of Boston University School of Law and holds an MBA from MIT’s Sloan School of Management and a BA from the University of Pennsylvania. John lives outside Boston with his wife, who is a literacy teacher, and their son. Their two daughters have recently flown the nest.
