Creative placemaking in downtown Fitchburg

Through collaboration with the Fitchburg Art Museum, Fitchburg State University, and the Montachusett Regional Planning Commission, the Gateway City of Fitchburg has received a $75,000 grant for its Main Street Art Project from the National Endowment for the Arts.

The project will work to revitalize the local economy and improve the quality of life by promoting creative activity, such as public art performances and installations in unused building space and storefronts in the downtown area.

Partners will include local public, educational, nonprofit and community organizations, in addition to both local and out-of-town artists working together to stimulate creativity in elementary to college-age youth. This will take the form of workshops, conducted by artists engaging in residencies of about one month, that explore Fitchburg-related themes.
