Panel 1: High School Redesign for College and Career Readiness

To ensure that all students graduate and land firmly on a college and career pathway, Gateway Cities are developing a variety of innovative approaches to challenge students with rigorous coursework and expose them to work-based learning and early college experiences. We’ll be highlighting this exciting work and state-level policy efforts to advance it.

Lead Presenter: David Ruff- Executive Director, Great Schools Partnership

Panel 2: Justice Reinvestment

Too many Gateway City youth struggle to establish a career and stable family life as they make the difficult transition to adulthood. Instead they land in the criminal justice system, which makes it even harder for them to contribute to the community productively. Leaders on Beacon Hill have pledged to file legislation early next year to address this challenge. We’ll look at what this means for Gateway Cities and efforts to build workforce development systems that help those with multiple barriers to employment overcome the odds.

Lead Presenter: Gregg Croteau- Executive Director, UTEC

Panel 3: Community College Transformation

Community colleges across the state are developing new instructional models and employer partnerships to help low-skilled adults get into the workforce and climb career ladders. We’ll take a behind the scenes look at this movement and explore how recent changes at the federal-level can further these efforts.

Lead Presenter: Lane Glenn- President, Northern Essex Community College
