CommonWealth magazine to hold a policy debate on the “American Dream” with candidates in Massachusetts’ 6th Congressional District

Single issue debate format to present candidates’ positions on job growth, economic security and the future of the Middle Class

When: Thursday, September 27th.  3:00 pm.

Where: The North Shore Community College (NSCC). Lynn Campus, Thomas McGee Building. 300 Broad Street, Lynn, MA

Partners: NSCC, Lynn Area Chamber of Commerce, North Shore Latino Business Association, Lynn Business Partnership.

Democratic Congressman John Tierney, Republican challenger Richard Tisei and Independent challenger Daniel Fishman will square off on policy issues related to the “American Dream” in a debate led by CommonWealth magazine and partners in the 6th Congressional District.  The 60-minute debate will be moderated by CommonWealth editor, Bruce Mohl, and will focus on national and state economic issues.

MassINC, which publishes CommonWealth, offers the single-issue debate format as a way of keeping the discussion focused on public policy and presenting candidates’ in-depth perspectives on the issues.

In a letter inviting the candidates to participate, Mohl wrote: “The American Dream is in trouble. In the wake of the Great Recession, the middle class is being squeezed and the nation’s politicians seem gridlocked. Parents no longer are sure whether their hard work will pay off for them and their kids. It’s a subject of vital importance to the country and residents of the Sixth District.”

CommonWealth has also invited candidates in the 4th Congressional District to a similarly-formatted debate on the “American Dream” in Fall River, at the UMass Dartmouth Advanced Manufacturing Center.
